Modeling and Querying Primitives for Digital Media

We present a data model and equivalent rule-based and visual query formalisms for managing digital media data { speciically, audio and video data. The query formalisms in the paper are also equivalent to an algebra. The simplicity and equivalence of these formalisms provides evidence that the concepts in this model may deene a kernel of capabilities required for handling digital media.

Querying the World Wide

1 The World Wide Web is a large, heterogeneous , distributed collection of documents connected by hypertext links. The most common technology currently used for searching the Web depends on sending information retrieval requests to "index servers" that index as many documents as they can nd by navigating the network. One problem with this is that users must be aware of the various index servers...

Querying the physical world

In the next decade, millions of sensors and small-scale mobile devices will integrate processors, memory and communication capabilities. Networks of devices will be widely deployed for monitoring applications. In these new applications, users need to query very large collections of devices in an ad-hoc manner. Most existing systems rely on a centralized system for collecting device data. These ...

Building and Querying a P2P Virtual World

Peer-to-Peer (P2P) systems are known to provide excellent scalability in a networked environment. One peer is introduced to the system by each participant. However current P2P applications can only provide file sharing and other forms of relatively simple data communications, and, in this paper, we demonstrate how this limitation can be bridged by indexing and querying a 3D virtual-world on a d...

T Querying the Physical World

sensors, actuators, and mobile devices is transforming the physical world into a computing platform. We will soon find computing power, memory, and communication capabilities on temperature sensors and motion detectors, on door locks, light bulbs, and alarms, on every cellular phone, in every vehicle, and soon in every person's wallet or on their key ring. Emerging networking techniques ensure ...
